1. I or an American citizen I know is in an emergency situation. Do I need to make an appointment with the Consular Section?
No. Consular staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist American citizens in emergency situations. During normal office hours, Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm, please call +66(53)10-7777. After hours, please call our Duty Officer at +66(81)881-1878. If the emergency is outside of the 15 northern provinces in Thailand, please contact the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok during office hours at +66(2)205-4000 or after hours at +66(81)868-0530.
2. I need information about security and safety while traveling in Thailand or overseas. What do I do?
Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the U.S. Consulate General Chiang Mai and the U.S. Embassy Bangkok’s websites at http://chiangmai.usconsulate.gov/ and http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/ and the U.S. Department of State's travel website at http://www.travel.state.gov/, where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Warnings, and Travel Alerts can be found.
