AMERICAN CITIZEN SERVICES APPOINTMENT SYSTEM
MAKING AN APPOINTMENT
Appointments can be made online by visiting the Consular appointment website.
Please keep a record of your password when creating an appointment for services.
Please Note: We are unable to book appointments over the phone. You must use the online system to schedule an appointment with the American Citizen Services Unit in Chiang Mai. Please be sure to note your confirmation number, should there be a need to change or cancel your appointment. Please print a copy of the confirmation page to bring with you to the Consulate on the date of your appointment.
If you are picking up a passport, Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or if you are picking up a Federal Benefits Check......please do not make an appointment for pick-up services.
Customers picking up the above items may come to the Consular Section on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons between 1 pm and 3:30 pm for walk-in pick-up services. If you need to pick up a document outside of these normal pick-up service hours, please email us at acschn@state.gov.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. I’ve made my appointment already. What is the procedure when I arrive at the Consulate?
When you arrive at the Consulate’s North Gate (on Wichayanont Road) you will pass through security and then enter the outdoor waiting area. If you have not brought a completed form with you, please take the time to find your form at the display case and complete the form as best as you can. Please do not sign any document until asked to do so. Next, proceed through the door into the Consular Section and check-in at Window 1. A Consular Assistant will ask to see a copy of your appointment sheet, and they can assist with forms as needed.
2. I need to pick up my or someone else’s Social Security or benefits check, completed passport, or completed Consular Report of Birth Abroad, but that is not an option on the Appointment page. What can I do?
Customers picking up passports, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or Federal Benefits Checks may come to the Consular Section on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons between 1 pm and 3:30 pm for walk-in pick-up services. Please bring the signed authorization form (if applicable) permitting you to receive these documents for the person.
3. I need to do multiple services at the Consular Section at the same time, but the appointment's page only lets me select one service. What can I do?
It is only necessary to make one appointment for multiple services. Please select one of your services when making your appointment online. If a Consular Report of Birth is one of your requested services, please select that service. Please inform the Consular Assistant at Window 1 that you also will need to complete additional services.
4. Do I need to bring a confirmation of my appointment to the Consular Section?
Yes. The appointment page will prompt you to print or take note of your appointment number. Please present this at Window 1 when you arrive at the Consulate.
5. I am having trouble making an appointment online. Can I make the appointment over the phone?
No. Appointments must be made by the applicant online. If you are experiencing difficulty, please contact us via email at acschn@state.gov.
6. How can I cancel my appointment?
Please go to the appointment page and click, “Cancel my appointment.” You will need to enter your confirmation number to proceed with this process.
7. What if I am late for my appointment?
Please try to arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to your appointment to allow time to go through security and complete your forms. If you are late for your appointment, we may ask you take a number and wait until other customers complete their services or to leave and reschedule your appointment for another day.
8. I have a question or other issue to discuss with a Consular Officer. Do I need to make an appointment?
We recommend that you send an email to our Consular Officers at acschn@state.gov explaining your question in detail. An officer will respond to you within two to three business days.
