Appointment FAQ

American Citizen Services Appointment System

1. May I continue to come to the Consular Section on a walk-in basis?

The Consular Section will continue to accept walk-ins for all services (except Consular Reports of Birth Abroad) through March 26, 2009.  Walk-in hours are 8:30am to 11am and 1pm to 2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Walk-ins will no longer be accepted beginning March 31, 2009.  Appointments will be mandatory as of March 31, 2009.

2. I’ve made my appointment already.  What do I do when I arrive at the Consulate?

When you arrive at the Consulate’s north gate (on Wichayanont Road), you may pass through security and enter the outdoor waiting area.  If you have not brought a completed form with you, please take the time to find your form at the display case and complete the form as best as you can.  Please do NOT sign any document until asked to do so.  If you have an appointment, go directly through the door into the Consular Section and check-in at Window 1.  A Consular Assistant will ask to see a copy of your appointment number.

3. I don’t have an appointment.  What do I do when I arrive at the Consulate?

As we transition to the new appointment system, we will continue to accept walk-ins through March 26, 2009, but will give priority to those who made appointments online.  If you arrive without an appointment, please pass through security, then take a number in the outdoor waiting area.  While waiting, you should complete any forms or documents necessary for your service.  You will be called by your number for your service.  If arrive without an appointment on or after March 31, 2009, you will be asked to make an appointment and return again at your appointment time.

4. I need to pick up my or someone else’s Social Security or benefits check, completed passport, or completed Consular Report of Birth Abroad, but that is not an option on the Appointment page.  What do I do?

Customers picking up benefits checks or completed Consular Reports of Birth Abroad or passports may come to the Consular Section on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons between 1 pm and 3:30 pm for walk-in pick-up services.  Please do not make an appointment for pick-up services.  If you need to pick up a document outside of these normal pick-up service hours, please email us at acschn@state.gov.

5. I need to do multiple services at the Consular Section at the same time, but the Appointments page only let’s me select one service.  What do I do?

It is only necessary to make one appointment for multiple services.  Please select one of your services when making your appointment online.  If a Consular Report of Birth is one of your services, please select that service.  Please inform the Consular Assistant at Window 1 when you arrive that you also need to complete additional services.

6. Do I need to bring a confirmation of my appointment to the Consular Section?

Yes.  The Appointment page will prompt you to print or take note of your appointment number.  Please present this at Window 1 when you arrive at the Consulate.

7. I am having trouble making an appointment online.  Can I make the appointment on the phone?

Appointments must be made by the applicant online.  If you are facing technical problems while trying to make your appointment, please call 053-10-7777 for assistance.

8. I know an American citizen who does not have internet access.  How can he or she make an appointment?

American Citizens may come to the Consular Section during normal American Citizen Service operating hours to use a special computer terminal that allows them to make an appointment.  Because it will be necessary to pass security in order to use the computer terminal here, we advise all Americans to find other means of accessing the internet.

9. How can I cancel my appointment?

Click here, then click “Cancel my appointment.”  Follow the directions after that.

10.  What if I am late for my appointment?

Please try to arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to your appointment to allow time to go through security and complete your forms.  If you are late for your appointment, we may ask you take a number and wait until other customers to complete their services or to leave and reschedule your appointment for another day.

11. Why did the Consular Section implement this appointment system?

The purpose of the appointment system is to cut wait times for services and allow us to provide you with better service as demand for our services continues to grow.  Thank you for your understanding as we work to provide you with a higher standard of service.

12.  I have a question or other issue to discuss with a Consular Officer.  Do I need to make an appointment?

We recommend that you send an email to our Consular Officers at
acschn@state.gov explaining your question in detail.  An officer will respond to you within two to three business days.
