U.S. Cultural Envoy launched four workshops in Chiang Mai to help enhance ‘thinking skills” among local youth.



U.S. Consulate General, Chiang Mai, in collaboration with U.S. Embassy Bangkok, sponsored “Visual Thinking Strategies Workshops” by U.S. cultural envoy Philip Yenawine in Chiang Mai Jan 27-29, 2010 to promote the use of art to enhance thinking and communication skills.  The workshops were co-hosted by Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Education and Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University’s Faculty of Education, and Chiang Mai Educational Service Area 1.

Philip Yenawine is co founder of Visual Understanding in Education (VUE), a non-profit educational research organization that develops and studies ways of teaching visual literacy and of using art to teach thinking and communication skills.  VUE’s curriculum, Visual Thinking Strategies, is in use in schools across the US. Philip was also former Director of Education at The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York.
