Consul General opens Model UN conference at Chiang Mai International School

CG Beatrice Camp at Chiang Mai International School

Consul General Bea Camp opened the Model United Nations conference at Chiang Mai International School on April 28 by congratulating participating students and teachers on their active interest in international issues.

The MUN conference, organized by CMIS teacher Martin Foakes with 44 student delegates from three international schools, focused on “Global Energy Resources”. Mr. Foakes noted that, “A fundamental role of education is to inspire students to know and care about the world in which they live. As international educators in Chiang Mai, we are now in a unique position to put together a challenging and positive educational experience at the first ever Chiang Mai Model United Nations.”

In her opening remarks, CG Camp described her experience as a MUN volunteer with high school students in Washington DC and the skills she saw those students develop as a result of their participation. She also outlined how the US Government works with the UN and called attention to recent UN meetings focused on the theme of the student conference: energy needs, climate change and sustainable development.
